Community Oriented Policing
The department follows the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and
Problem Solving. The concept is common with most departments, but a unique
program has been designed to fill the needs for the department. One officer is
assigned to act as a liaison to various types of problems.
A Team concept is in place where each department member is responsible for
identifying a problem and submitting a request for a project to be conducted.
The Liaison Officer reviews the project and determines what appropriate
personnel, agencies, and resources may be needed.
The goal is to identify the problem or problems, find a solution and eliminate
the problem. By doing this, repetitive calls for service are stopped, which
frees personnel to do pro-active patrol and improves the quality of life for the
citizens of Banning. By working with other City personnel, other agencies,
businesses and community groups, the Department succeeds in accomplishing its
mission.
